They are larger in size than the OEM, wider fins give more airflow – more airflow gives cooler, denser air – this gives more oxygen to mix with the fuel, which gives a bigger bang.

The TD5 intercooler we produce is about 200% larger by volume than the OEM. This allows for 75% greater airflow – quite an increase – and you can’t help but notice the difference in power output.
The heat transfer rate is higher mainly due to us not using any glue or sealants in the manufacturing process – the core is 100% braised aluminium.
Some of the other leading intercooler manufacturers use plate and fin cores that are glued. Need we say more…?
This heat transfer rate increase is possible because we use extruded tube cores. The fins are stretched by 50% over standard, which increases the airflow to your radiator, which compensates for the extra heat being transferred from the intercooler to it.
Each tube also has interior fins that add to the cooling surface area of the tubes. The greater the cooling surface area – the cooler the air will become, the better the heat transfer rate will be.
